Compare the pinouts of the adaptor leads with the HP documents and ATX standard. I bought them leads and the PS_OK and 5Vsb pins were reversed. You should also disconnect the 5V between the motherboard and the power supply, that should not be connected. The motherboard generates it's own 5V and what the lead is doing is connecting that to the power supplies 5V output.

Hardware projects / Z800 alternative PSU!
Last post by lukew - December 14, 2019, 07:01:23 am

For the last 9 months or so I've been using a Z800 as my main workstation and the one issue it's always had is the power supply. They fail and are not cheap to replace, pretty much the cost of a working machine for a used supply. I have a pair of them but have only had one power supply.

I ended up adapting an ATX supply using some leads from China (which were made incorrectly), but recently found a Proliant Ml350/370 supply slides into the space for the original unit. It requires removing the original wiring from the case and chopping off the power supply connectors, then soldering the wires to the supply (or use a piece of strip board for distribution). A 5V relay is also required to short the PS_ON pins using the active low ATX PS_ON signal. I opted to use the original HDD bays so used an old 12V CPU (4 pin) extension to take power to the original connector.

It's got the correct outputs for the Z800 (5Vsb, 3v3sb and 12v@82A), is rated at 1KW continous output and my "spare" Z800 is running a CPU stress test under Ubuntu pulling about 280w so it's way over-rated for the job. That leaves a safe 700w for a graphics card or 2.

These supplies are available for around £15 on eBay, even cheaper in bulk. A fan will be a good idea to help extract heat from the top of the case.

I see no issue with taking one apart and putting the internals into the original psu case for a completely plug and play upgrade, there's plenty of space in there.

stm32plus C++ library / Setting up a project without a...
Last post by simon - October 29, 2019, 04:16:47 am
Hello

So, looking into stm32plus for a quick project I'm cooking up using one of the "Baite" Maple Mini clone boards (STM32F103c8t6, 64k or 128k ROM, 20K RAM, 72mHz).  It seems I should be able to use the f1Hd setup and simply avoid the hardware I don't have, perfectly happy with that, and edit the link script to suit the RAM and ROM I have available.

Where I get stuck, though, is that I don't like IDEs in the slightest (I'm an old and grumpy unix dev from the days when even line editors were considered unnecessary frippery), and have never previously used scons.  Do you have any ideas on how to get started setting up a project *without* any of the IDE jazz?  I'm guessing this involves setting up all sorts of magical Sconstruct files?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to give

Simon

Hardware projects / Z600 Bootblock
Last post by joe_zeroh - October 01, 2019, 07:07:10 am
Hello everyone,

while trying to install a pair X5675 in my old Z600 Workstation the Bios refused to boot. A single X5675 boots fine. According to the HP Quickspecs this processor should be supported. Currently, i assume it is related to my the old bootblock of my Z600 mainboard. I have managed to read the Bios EEPROM with CH341A by de-soldering the Vcc Pin as suggested in other threads for the Z800. By comparing this image to the image contained in the Bios update, i could see that several pages at the beginning of Bios update image just contained 0xFFs, so it is missing the bootblock.

So my questions is: has anyone in this forum with a Z600 Rev003 the possibility to dump the EEPROM and send me the image? Also hints where else i could find this image would be very welcome.

Best regards, Joe

Yes, SMD connectors (micro or mini) are a separate issue. I agree and only use ones with through hole connections.

Also, re: the crystal, it IS a tuning fork. See:

The other day I unplugged my GP and the USB charging connector came out  Is this a repairable item? Is there a way to by-pass the missing connector and charge the battery another way??

Oh
Thank you Very much.

However I had a spare Supply.

Maybe I should say a supply that was not in use, it was purchased for my 3DP11 that had never installed.
My first 3DP11 is working perfectly well with the Original power supply a 12v 30a 360wt.

Though I do appreciate the offer.
